Why do the cases have a black bezel now?

Last updated on Sep 09, 2025

TLDR: Our new Solid and Select cases are reinforced with FlexResin in key stress points, making them far stronger, easier to snap on, and longer-lasting, without losing the natural feel of real wood.

We’ve completely reimagined our Solid and Select cases with a new design that makes them stronger and more durable than ever.

It all starts the same way: carved from a solid block of wood. But after the first CNC milling, we add in a small amount of flexible resin we call FlexResin, which bonds directly and permanently to the wood. After the final CNC cutout, this FlexResin forms the bezel that wraps around the buttons, charging port, and speaker openings.

These areas are traditionally the weakest points of a wooden case (see photo below). Left as bare wood, they’re thin, fragile, and prone to breaking. By reinforcing them with FlexResin, we dramatically reduce breakage while making it much easier to snap your phone into the case without stress. The resin’s slight flexibility also creates a snug, secure hold so your phone stays firmly in place.

We tested countless methods, and this one is by far the strongest and longest-lasting design we’ve ever built. The result: a Solid or Select case that not only feels incredible in your hand, but also offers far better durability and protection for your phone from everyday drops.

So why don't we continue offering a 100% wood only version?

We really would love to offer a 100% wood-only version, but the reality is that it simply isn’t strong enough to handle the demands of daily phone use. Considering the longevity and protection this new design provides, we believe this small tradeoff is well worth it. And while a phone case requires this reinforced design, we do have future plans to create other products that will be made from 100% wood only.
